Election FAQ

Who can register to vote? 
To register in the state of California, you must be a United States Citizen and a resident of California, 18 years or older on Election Day, not serving a state or federal prison term for a felony, and not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court.
How do I change my political party? 
In order to change your political party, you must re-register to vote. You can re-register to vote by completing a voter registration application online at registertovote.ca.gov.
What is the difference between the primary and general?
In the U.S., we use two different type of elections. The first step is the primary election, which serve as a party nomination for the political office. After the primary, the general election will be held, which is the main election and held between the winners of the various primary elections.
How do I know if I am registered to vote?
To check your registration status, click "Vote Now" on the menu, fill out your information, and click "Check My Registration Status" to see if you are registered to vote. if you are not, you can register by completing a voter registration application online at registertovote.ca.gov.
